Spiral point taps (also called machine taps) are designed to solve the problem of taps breaking during through-hole operation. They achieve this by pushing the chips ahead of the cutting action, thus reducing loading and clogging in the flutes. They are recommended for use in through or blind-hole applications. The HSS is ideal for threading a wide variety of ductile materials such as copper and copper alloys, brass, and non-metallics.
